High on 4/20 day? Lyft teams with ‘Super Troopers’ to offer discount rides

OK. We know. Today is April 20. That means it’s 4/20 day. We can see through the clouds of pot smoke. We get the joke.

siliconbeat logo tech news blogAnd with recreational weed being legal in California, you can bet that there will be a little more blazing up in public on this year’s 4/20 day than in prior years. And that also means that there will be more folks chuckling down the street as they hit Taco Bell for their late-night (or, maybe even afternoon) munchies on the way home.

Now, when people are under the influence, they have been known to do things they shouldn’t do. Like get behind the wheel in an attempt to drive to that Taco Bell for those late-night (or, maybe even afternoon) munchies. No one wants anyone to do that. In fact, ride-sharing company Lyft is offering up a bowl’s-worth of discounts to get you home safely.

The company is offering a special discount of up to $4.20 — yes, there’s that 4/20 reference, again — for folks who order up a ride and use the code 420CAL to book their trip in the Bay Area on April 20. Lyft is also making the discount available for riders in Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas and Denver.

And you can bet some of those choosing to blaze up today will also partake in the premiere of the movie “Super Troopers 2”, the long-awaited sequel to the 2001 cult favorite “Super Troopers,” about a group of bored, pot-smoking Vermont state police officers working near the border with Canada. To mark that occasion, Lyft has teamed up with the Super Troopers themselves on a PSA to get the word out about its 4/20 discount.

If that weren’t enough, Lyft riders also can go to the promos section of the Lyft app and enter LYFTTROOPERS to say hi to the Super Troopers.

That’s say “hi”. Not “high,” got it?
